The Ministry of Economy and Finance, alongside Asterion Industrial Partners' subsidiary Retelit, has submitted a binding offer of €700 million to acquire Sparkle, Telecom Italia's international telecommunications arm. This offer, valid until January 27, 2025, positions Sparkle as a leading provider in Italy and the fifth globally in internet traffic, boasting a 600,000-kilometer fiber optic network across 32 countries. UBS, led by Riccardo Mulone and Guido Colonetti, advised the consortium on this transaction.
Swisscom's €8 billion acquisition of Vodafone Italia has received approval from Italy's communications authority, AGCOM, but still requires consent from the antitrust authority AGCM and the Ministry for Enterprise and Made in Italy. The merger, which will create the second-largest telecom provider in Italy, is expected to generate annual synergies of €600 million by 2029. Swisscom aims to finalize the deal by the first quarter of next year, despite concerns from competitors regarding market dominance and competition.
